Exploring the Heart of Brooklyn & Its South Asian & Muslim Communities

The neighborhoods of Flatbush, Kensington, and Midwood are home to the fastest-growing segment of New York’s Asian population – the South Asian and Muslim communities – yet they offer few social services to support these burgeoning groups.

On Sept. 24, we partnered with our member agency Council of People’s Organization (COPO), the only social service agency serving these groups in central Brooklyn, to host a neighborhood tour of “Little Pakistan” in order to highlight the communities’ growth in the past 25 years, as well as the challenges they’ve faced in the aftermath of 9/11. Nearly 20 people from community groups, elected officials’ offices, and the media attended the walking tour.
