Census 2010 Complete Count Coordinator
Status: FT or P/T Temporary (January 2010 – July 2010)
Description:
The Census 2010 Complete Count Coordinator position is a once in a decade opportunity to connect with Asian community leaders across the New York City metropolitan area. The Asian American Federation is a national and local partner for Census 2010 and seeks to reach the hard-to-reach members of the Asian community. Congressional re-apportionment and redistricting as well as state and local redistricting are directly dependent on the results of the Census. In addition, the Census 2010 also helps to determine the distribution of $400 billion of federal funds annually to communities for schools, transportation, public health and other vital social programs, such as English-language education and job training.
The Complete Count Coordinator will:
- Coordinate the entire Census outreach and community engagement effort on a national as well as regional setting
- Liaise with the Federation’s national partners on outreach strategy coordination, information and resources sharing, progress monitoring, problem identification, and reporting coordination
- Manage Federation regional grantees network to maximize activities coordination and minimize overlapping or duplication of efforts
- Monitor and provide technical support to grantees to ensure their outreach and community engagement efforts are in sync with overall project goals and milestones
- Facilitate monthly meetings or conference calls with grantees to track progress
- Identify and engage leaders and trusted groups in emerging and/or hard-to-reach ethnic communities and work directly to promote responses to Census 2010
- Participate as a member of the Federation’s in-house Census team in strategizing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the outreach and community engagement effort
- Participate in project stewardship and reporting efforts to funders
- Liaise with Census Bureau representatives to ensure the Federation and its national and regional partners are working in supplement and in complement to the Bureau’s own community outreach efforts
Qualification Requirements:
- Strong organizing, coalition building, and project management skills; ability to work with groups of diverse cultural backgrounds; excellent communication and presentation skills
- Dynamic and engaging personality
- Keen understanding of one or more Asian American communities
- Ability to speak, read, and write one or more Asian languages preferred
- 5 years of post graduate work experience
- Previous work or volunteer experience in Census a plus
- Flexible time schedule with willingness to work occasional weekend and evening hours; willingness to do occasional inter-state travels in the tri-state region and Philadelphia
