The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) is a 36-year old New York-based
national organization that protects and promotes the civil rights of Asian Americans through litigation,
advocacy and community education. AALDEF has a 21-person staff and is supported by foundation and

Program Associate, Educational Equity and Youth Rights Project
DESCRIPTION: AALDEF's Educational Equity and Youth Rights Project provides legal assistance to K-
12 public school students, parents, and teachers on such issues as English Language Learner (ELL)
programming, language access, school discipline, racial profiling, anti-Asian harassment, school pushout,
and juvenile justice.
The Program Associate will work with AALDEF attorneys on the following activities:
1. Coordinate the National Asian American Education Advocates (NAAEA) Network of youth rights
advocacy groups, convene conference calls for members, maintain regular communication with members,
organize joint advocacy campaigns, disseminate resources and news articles, manage the NAAEA
listserv, and reach out to potential new members;
2. Participate in local and national education coalitions on Asian American public education issues, attend
meetings with education officials and legislative staff, analyze school and demographic data, draft public
testimony and organize briefings on proposed legislation and federal and local education policies;
3. Develop and conduct engaging, youth-oriented community education trainings and outreach with youth
groups, draft training materials and worksheets, present at panel discussions and conferences.
Additional Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Detail oriented, independent and focused.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience in community organizing or policy advocacy, and experience working with high school aged
youth preferred.
- Familiarity with Asian American community issues preferred.
- Ability to speak an Asian language desirable.
- Ability to travel and work on weekends.
