Project PACT VISTA Leader
The Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF) is seeking a full-time PROJECT PACT VISTA LEADER to coordinate Project PACT, an AmeriCorps*VISTA program between 6 community based organizations serving children, youth, and families of diverse Asian Pacific American backgrounds. Project PACT includes CACF, Filipino American Human Services Inc. (FAHSI), Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC), MinKwon Center for Community Action, South Asian Youth Action (SAYA!), and The Sikh Coalition. The Project PACT VISTA Leader will mentor and support 10 full-time VISTA Members from July 2010 – June 2011 at 6 sites throughout New York City. The VISTA Leader will help ensure that the VISTA team is successful!
Responsibilities
1) Program Coordination: Work with CACF Deputy Director on coordinating and supporting Project PACT, the 6-site AmeriCorps*VISTA program. Gather, organize, and analyze performance data for AmeriCorps*VISTA program. Assist CACF Deputy Director in preparation and submission of reports to the federal funding agency. Collect, maintain, and update VISTA contact information, host site information, and VISTA profiles.
2) Member Recruitment and Support: Assist in managing all aspects of the VISTA recruitment process. Develop and implement comprehensive training and reflection programs for VISTA Members. Create a support network among VISTA Members. Organize and implement regular check-in and subject-based conference calls with VISTA Members. Provide VISTA Members with up-to-date resource, training, and networking information. Initiate communication with and between VISTA Members. Monitor announcements, events, messages, and news updates for and from VISTA Members.
3) Coalition Building: Coordinate all communications and relationships between CACF and 5 host sites. Act as a liaison between 10 VISTA Members, 5 host sites, and CACF staff. Support VISTA host sites through regular site visits in coordination with CACF Deputy Director. Cultivate and maintain relationships with host sites, community partners, funders, policymakers, media, researchers, and other stakeholders.
Requirements: Recommended skills and qualifications include:
1) High school diploma required. Associate or bachelor degree preferred.
2) One year of experience as an AmeriCorps*VISTA Member.
3) Ability to make a full-year, full-time commitment. Cannot hold another job or be a student.
4) Commitment to CACF’s mission, children’s rights, and Asian Pacific American community.
5) Excellent speaking, writing, presentation, and critical analysis skills.
6) Ability to take initiative, meet deadlines, and work independently and on multiple tasks under pressure.
7) Ability to work with diverse teams and collaborate with CACF staff and community partners.
8) Proficiency in PC, MS Office, email, and internet.
9) Experience in community building, volunteer management, and team supervision preferred.
10) Ability to write and speak an Asian language/dialect preferred but not required.
11) U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
