Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund
Director of Finance and Human Resources

The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) is a 36-year old New York-based national organization that protects and promotes the civil rights of Asian Americans through litigation, advocacy and community education. AALDEF has a 21-person staff and is supported by foundation and corporate grants, individual contributions, and special events.

The Director of Finance and Human Resources is responsible for coordinating accounting, reporting and fiscal operations; administering compensation and benefits programs; reviewing personnel policies; and overseeing space planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Coordinating accounting and finance functions in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Coordinating all audit activities
  • Assisting with developing budgets, tracking and reporting for grant budgets and expenditures
  • Ensuring the organization is in compliance with all federal, state and city laws regarding nonprofit operations and employment laws and regulations
  • Overseeing outside vendor contracts for insurance, office equipment, etc.
  • Providing General Ledger oversight and preparing financial statements and cash flow reports
  • Overseeing financial procedures, internal controls, and administrative systems
  • Administering policies, procedures and programs related to human resources, including the personnel manual, payroll, insurance, 403(b) plan and employee benefits
  • Overseeing space planning
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or minimum 3 years of professional experience in financial management
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and QuickBooks
  • Detail oriented/organized/ability to multi-task
  • Strong organizational and communications skills
  • Previous supervisory or human resources experience preferred
