Membership & Engagement Manager
Founded in 1989, the Asian American Federation (AAF) is one of the strongest leadership voices advocating for better policies, services, and funding that lead to more justice and opportunity for Asian immigrants, one of the most historically under-resourced communities in New York City. As an umbrella leadership organization, we represent 70 community-based organizations serving 1.5 million Asian New Yorkers, the fastest-growing population in the city.
Overview:
We are seeking a strategic and passionate Membership & Engagement Manager to lead the implementation and evolution of our membership program. You will balance high-level program design and implementation with boots-on-the-ground relationship management. You will be responsible for bringing our membership strategy to life, ensuring that every member in our network has the tools, connections, and leadership resources they need to thrive, as well as being the primary driver of retention and engagement. This is a pivotal role for a professional who loves owning a program, seeing the direct results of their work in the success of the organizations we serve, and driving initiatives across an organization.
The ideal candidate brings exceptional partnership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to secure buy-in, build trust, and sustain long-term relationships across diverse audiences. They are a confident facilitator and public speaker who can represent AAF with professionalism and authenticity. This individual demonstrates strong personal maturity, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm, composed, and solutions-oriented under pressure. They possess a high degree of accountability, ownership, and commitment to excellence in work products, along with outstanding listening, communication, and collaboration skills. The successful candidate will thrive both independently and as part of a team, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines with strong organizational and project management abilities.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Programs, the Membership & Engagement Manager will be responsible for, but not exclusive to:
Membership Program Implementation
- Roll out the strategic framework for our membership program, including benefits and value propositions.
- Relaunch AAF’s membership program for existing and new member organizations.
- Monitor engagement metrics to identify lapsed members and proactively design interventions to support and activate them.
Relationship Management
- Serve as the first point of contact for our membership and partner network, actively referring them to AAF programming, initiatives, and staff.
- Curate and produce a biweekly member-exclusive newsletter.
Community & Event Programming
- Implement nonprofit support initiatives to increase the organizational capacity of AAF’s member and partner organizations and to meet funder expectations and timelines.
- Coordinate and implement workshops, trainings, and other events, including event support and program evaluation.
- Orchestrate and facilitate at least one member convening per year.
- Contribute to grant proposals and draft funder reports.
Data & Impact Reporting
- Manage the membership database to ensure contact information, membership metrics, and engagement history are updated and accurate.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize membership metrics and share high level findings with all staff to contextualize AAF’s work.
- Synthesize member feedback into actionable reports for the leadership team to steer the organization’s future strategy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required ideally in public policy, social work, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience;
- 4-6 years of relevant experience in membership management, community organizing, nonprofit relations, or program administration, with demonstrated success in implementing a program
- Demonstrated commitment to the Asian American communities and advancing AAF’s mission.

Preferences:
- Proficiency in Outlook, Google Suite, Mailchimp, and CRMs
- Fluency in an Asian language
Compensation & Benefits
This position is based in New York City, with a hybrid work environment. The salary range for this position is $87,000 – $90,000. AAF provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employee health care; dental and vision coverage; life insurance; as well as a 403(b) plan with 3% employer match and generous paid time off.
To uphold organizational parity and pay equity, AAF will use a non-negotiable salary structure that takes into consideration the entire breadth of a candidate’s experience, employment, and education to arrive at their base salary.
