Empowering New York’s Asian American Community Since 1989

AAF Joins Communities Across America in Mourning the Senseless Loss of Life

AAF is heartbroken to learn of the murder of eight workers in Indianapolis, at a FedEx facility where 90 percent of the employees are Sikh. Included in the eight dead, were four Sikh members of our own pan-Asian community. We mourn the loss of Amarjeet Kaur Johal, Jaswinder Kaur, Jaswinder Singh, and Amarjit Sekhon. They went to work expecting to come home to their families but had their lives cut short by yet another angry shooter.

This horrific news comes even as we continue to mourn the murders of Daunte Wright and Adam Toledo. All these senseless deaths add to the growing frustration and outrage among communities of color and our conviction that things have to change.

We know that violence against the Asian community is interconnected to the violence against the Black and Latino communities. With every day the need to work together in solidarity and invest in programs that dismantle racism grows stronger. We call on our national and local leaders, once again, to urgently do their duty to push for and enact policies and laws that will keep all Americans safe.
