ASIAN AMERICAN FEDERATION GRANTS OVER $500,000 TO COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS IN THE NORTHEAST FOR CENSUS 2010

As part of its major census outreach initiative, Census 2010 Community Engagement Campaign, the Asian American Federation grants over half a million dollars to Asian community based organizations in New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia

NEW YORK- Since its outset at the end of 2009, the Asian American Federation’s Census 2010 Community Engagement Campaign, has partnered with over 30 community based organizations in New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia for Census 2010 outreach and promotion. In total, the Federation has granted $543,000 to its partner agencies to raise awareness and urge its community members to participate in this year’s census. Federation Executive Director, Cao O says “our partner agencies across the region have intensified their outreach efforts in recent weeks. Over 10 agencies are conducting phone banking and/or neighborhood canvassing to encourage residents to participate in the census. ” Additionally, the Federation partners are operating more than a dozen in-language hotlines for those who need further help in completing the form.

The Federation’s campaign brings together an ethnically diverse group of community organizations to conduct community outreach & education on Census 2010, as well as, providing those organizations with an unprecedented level of funding support and census training.
